What is an Original Artwork?

The classification of "Original Art" can be applied to any artwork considered to be the first authentic example of an artist's piece. An original artwork is the first version of a painting, drawing or sketch an artist creates, and not any subsequent Limited Edition (LE) prints, reproductions, or imitations of the artwork.

What is an (LE) Limited Edition?

Limited edition (LE) are prints of certain artwork that are limited to the number that will be printed in that size. Limited editions often have a higher perceived value, as they will not be printed again and are therefore more of a rarity.

What is a Giclée Print?

Giclée print is a high quality reproduction of an original artwork, it offers one of the highest degrees of accuracy and richness of color available in any reproduction technique. In Giclée printing, no screen or other mechanical devices are used and therefore there is no visible dot screen pattern. Giclée prints have all the tonalities and hues of an Original Painting.

What is a Certificate of Authenticity, and why is it important?

The certificate of Authenticity (COA) is equivelant to a pink slip in the automobile world. It's proof of ownership of an original painting or limited edition (LE) Giclée print. It is recommended to store your COA along with all your other important documents, and never keep it with the Artwork.

What is an (AP) Artist's Proof?

An (AP) is a print intended for the Artist's personal use. 10% of an edition is commonly reserved as Artist's proofs. (AP) prints are signed & numbered by the Artist and generally holds a higher value in the edition.

What is a (PP) Printer's Proof?

Prints used by the Artist & Printer as reference. 10% of an edition is commonly reserved as Printer's proofs. (PP) prints are signed & numbered by the Artist and generally holds a higher value in the edition.

What is an Art Commission?

In art, a commission is the act of requesting the creation of a piece, often on behalf of another. Unlike buying a pre-existing painting, a commission gives clients the ability to customize a painting to their specific requirements, including size, color and aesthetic preferences. Commission prices range depending on the level of the detail and/or the number of characters requested for the commissioned Artwork.
